Q: Are Carbs really bad for you?
SF: Only Muscle Meat heads would answer yes! Carbs have so many roles in a human body. It's THE primary source of energy. If you eat less carbs, protein would then be used as the energy leaving less protein to build and replenish muscles. Endurance athletes eat carbs all the time. Carbs is also used to balance your fluid level. Your body is made of mostly water, you need carbs to maintain it. The problem with carbs is having too much of it. But then again if you eat too much protein, you'll store it as well. Ask your trainer for the exact amount!

Q: I started working out doing more cardio but I've gained 2 pounds, what's going on?
SF: Don't worry, you're not alone. People start working out without much energy and endurance. Perhaps 10 - 20 mins on a treadmill going 3.5 rpm. Yeah, doing something is better than nothing but you just burned only about 160 calories. It common for people to "celebrate" and reward themselves with a treat probably a lot more than 160 calories. Or they go out that night and choose the heaviest dinner item assuming they "worked out" that day. Other factors include weight training more and not enough cardio. Building more muscle mass causes an increase in weight. For more details, please contact your personal trainer!

Q: OK! If I workout 5 hours everyday, how long would it take me to look like Halle Berry?
SF: Who's Halle Berry? JK... Yeah, ok first of all, did you just win the lottery and have all that extra time? Before we slide into "Perfect World" we need to always keep it realistic. Most of us have a full time job in and out of our homes. Always start with the amount of time you have to commit to working out and stick to it. If you miss a day, try and make it up. Most people commit to 3-5 days depending on their schedule and fitness level. You probably won't look like "Halle Berry" any time soon but in a few months you should start to see some great results. Always stick to an effective workout program. Most important is to keep it real and don't get burned out. Ask your personal trainer for further details!

Q: Do you gain weight eating late at night?
SF: It doesn't have any direct effect on gaining weight. More important is the amount of calories you consumed, not the time. If you worked all day and haven't had any food, um..yeah, you should eat regardless of time. Your next step should be to plan your next meals.

Q: Does muscle actually turn into fat?
SF: Muscle will NEVER ever turn into FAT. They are 2 separate tissues. If you apply strength training, you will gain muscle strength. And if you eat more calories than you burn, then you will gain more fat.

Q: Will weight training make females bulk up?
SF: Are we talking about average people working 40+ hours a week? Professional body builders workout very hard and long like 3 hours+ a day. They eat the right amounts of proteins and supplements to purposely gain that much muscle. Fact is momen don't produce enough testosterone hormones to get bulky. (Apologies to the ladies that really do want to get big). Average women might feel bulky in the initial state of working. That's because it's easier to build muscle for some people than to shed fat. HINT: It's very important to improve your endurance while you do resistance training.
